Waiting Period
This has two meanings: (1) the time period you must wait before you can get Health Insurance (HI) from a new employer; and (2) the time that must pass after becoming insured before the Policy will begin to pay Benefits for a Pre-Existing Condition - Long Answer or specified illness.

Waiver
An amendment to a Policy that excludes Coverage for certain medical conditions.

War
means war, declared or undeclared, invasion, hostilities, acts of foreign enemies, civil war, rebellion, insurrections, military or usurped power, martial law or confiscation by order of any government or public authority.

We, Us, Our, Our Company
In the glossary definitions, these words are in reference to the insurance company (Insurance Carrier) offering the insurance Coverage or it's Administrator. NOT the editors/owners of this website.

Well-Baby Care
Preventative Health Services, including immunizations, for young children within an age range specified by the Health Plan

Wellness Office Visit
A physician's Office Visit which is not prompted by Sickness or Injury

Withhold
A percentage of a Provider's payment that is "held back" during the plan year to offset or pay for any cost overruns for Referral or Hospital services. Any part of the withhold not used for these purposes is distributed to Providers.

Workers' Compensation
A state-mandated insurance program that provides Benefits for healthcare costs and lost wages to qualified employees and their Dependents if an employee suffers a work-related Injury or disease. Employers are required to have Coverage for employees who get sick or injured on the job.

Workers' Compensation Indemnity Benefits
Benefits that replace an employee's wages while the employee is unable to work because of a work-related Injury or illness.
